Use your phone abroad
Using your phone abroad can be easy, or very expensive. A little planning decides which.
Before you leave
- Ask your provider what roaming costs, and whether your plan includes your destination.
- Consider an eSIM or a local SIM for a longer trip, if your phone supports it and is unlocked.
- Download offline maps and any tickets or documents you need.
- Back up your phone.
While you are away
- Turn off data roaming if you do not have a plan for it.
- Use Wi-Fi when possible, and be careful with banking on public networks.
- Messaging apps and Wi-Fi calling are often cheaper than regular calls.
Do not forget
Pack a power adapter for your destination and a portable charger.
