Protect your online accounts
A few habits stop most account break-ins.
Do these three things
- Use a different, long password for each important account. A password manager remembers them for you.
- Turn on two-step sign-in, especially for email and banking.
- Install updates on your phone and computer when they are offered.
Secure your email first
Other accounts use your email to reset passwords, so whoever controls your email can reach almost everything else.
Stay alert
- Be careful about links in messages. Type the website address yourself.
- Do not reuse a password even on a minor site.
- Check which devices are signed in to your accounts now and then, and sign out any you do not recognize.
