Spot a scam message
Scammers try to make you act before you think. Knowing the signs keeps you safe.
Common warning signs
- Urgency, such as "your account will close today".
- Requests for passwords, codes, or payment by gift card, wire transfer or crypto.
- Links or attachments you did not expect.
- A message from a known company with odd spelling or a strange sender address.
- A promise of a prize, a refund or easy money.
What to do
- Do not click or reply. Contact the company using a phone number or website you already trust.
- Never share one-time codes with anyone, even someone who says they work for your bank.
- Report the message to the service or to your local fraud agency, then delete it.
If you already responded
Contact your bank right away, change your passwords, and turn on two-step sign-in. Acting quickly limits the damage.
